Is Your Life Yours?

I’m gonna hit you with some truth today.

If you don’t make time for solitude and daily inner listening your life ends up being run in accordance to external demands and other peoples opinions and expectations.

Let’s think about it together for a moment shall we?

What is the foundation of beliefs upon which you make decisions in your life?

These decisions could be simple like what you do eat for breakfast everyday or the music you listen to. They could be massive like, what do you do every week for hours upon hours in exchange for money or adhering to a timeline of creating a family.

So we’re contemplating together, yeah?

Why do you eat what you eat for breakfast? Is it because you read in a health article that it’s the best way to start your day? Is it what you’ve always done so you’re functioning out of habit? Does it actually feel good for you? Does your body actually want it?

What music do you listen to? Are you listening to whatever is on popular radio, what your friend always sends you or Spotifys weekly recommended? Are you actually enjoying what is being delivered to you?

Ok, we’ve warmed up the inner inquiry. Let’s go bigger shall we?

Why do you have the job you have? Have you thought about how many hours a week you spend doing what you do for money? Have you thought about how many years of your life those hours add up to? Are you aligned with why you are doing this work? Are you happy? Is your soul fed? Do you feel alive?

Do you have a family in the western traditional sense? When did you decide you wanted to get married, to be a spouse, to be a parent? Do you love the family title you have taken on? Does it feed your spirit? Do your home life values align with inner truth? Are you actually in touch with your inner truth?

Could you tell me what your soul stands for in one sentence if I asked you right now?

If you don’t step back from the incessant distractions and demands of the world you cannot possibly be fully connected to your truth. If you don’t connect with your inner wisdom, your own thoughts, dreams and ideas daily you end up living a life that simply doesn’t belong to you.

Feel like continuing the contemplation?

Ok cool let’s do it.

Consider where in your life you are on predetermined path. Are the paths you are walking in this moment in alignment with the dreams and desires you’ve been told you should want or that you actually want? Who spoon-fed you those desires and why are you still eating them?

As we are at the beginning of a new zodiacal year in the season of knowing yourself it’s a pretty good time to interrogate these parts of yourself and your life. It’s also a prime time to strike out on your own path and follow your own guidance should you currently be feeling the call.

Aries is the trail blazer. She knows who she is. She knows what she wants. She has a vision. She believes in herself and nothing can hold her back. She doesn’t let others determine her life. She doesn’t serve any narratives that aren’t born from the truth within her.

I have been blazing my own trail for almost 2 decades.

I shook myself free of external demands and expectations. I know how to follow the pull of my heart and my inner voice over anything external. This is my deepest passion and the absolute foundation of what I teach in The Way of Wild Wisdom.

I am not gonna lie, following your own path can be messy, wild and at times, lonely. I will never forget in my early days reading that “a spiritual path is a lonely path”. For me, this was and is ok. I thrive in isolation. I am an introvert and the work I pour into the world depends on my consistent devotion to my inner world.

It’s not uncommon to take the predetermined path out of fear of this. It’s natural for us as humans to want to belong and when we step out of what is considered “normal” we risk not belonging. Community and togetherness with others is so important. It’s essential. What I can tell you is that there are more people than you might think seeking the same heart centered “off the beaten trail” lifestyle you feel that pull to in your heart. I can assure you, you are not alone.

Your true path may require aloneness but you are never alone.

When I found my first yoga community in my early 20’s it gave me the permission to settle into the lone wolf that I was. I saw all these other weirdos around me and thought, ok, it’s ok to feel what I feel. That set me free. Some women I work with report the community portion of The Way of Wild Wisdom to be the most moving and important. Because although you are doing your work in solitude everyday for yourself, we meet and talk about our experiences together which not only give permission to the experiences you have on your own but empower their truth.

The truth about life is that no matter how you are partaking in it your path is always leading you to yourself.

Your heart has a way of never shutting up no matter how hard you may try to silence it or be told not to trust it. You know when something is off, when your soul is dissatisfied. Deep inside your truth is always calling you into yourself. Desperately trying to guide you onto your true path.

You can ignore it your whole life. You can live mildly satiated, on a “safely” pre-curated path. You can resist change and cling to what is known. You can trick your mind by rationalizing with your friends but if you’ve got a heart that was meant to break free she is never going to leave you alone.

In The Way of Wild Wisdom we spend the entire first month with Lavender giving rise to this inner voice. We dive into deep daily listening, regulation for self trust and empowering your intuition so that you trust the messages, guidance and answers that are coming from your own inner wisdom.

Through this process you do away with doubt.

This is the foundational aspect of bringing all of you back online and the only way to lay it down is to get quiet and listen.
